Jimmy John Liautaud Sells Iconic Yacht "Rock. It" and Embarks on New Ventures
The superyacht “Rock. It” has been sold. Mr. Jimmy John Liautaud, the founder of the Jimmy John’s sandwich enterprise, sold his impressive 198-foot custom yacht just before celebrating his 60th birthday. The yacht, designed by Sinot Yachts and crafted by Feadship—renowned for building yachts for luminaries such as Steven Spielberg, Eric Schmidt, Jeff Bezos, and U2’s The Edge—served as Liautaud's vessel for global exploration. He designed it in 2011, built it 2012-2014 and sailed it exclusively for 9 years. He sold it in June 2023.
Now, Liautaud is ready to embark on a new chapter. "It’s time to turn over to a new chapter," he shared. "I couldn’t have asked for a more extraordinary way to see the world.
Liautaud's investment portfolio is notably diverse, predominantly farming. He actively engages with most investments, making use of the expertise acquired during his years of building Jimmy John’s.
In addition to his investments, Liautaud has partnered with Sam Fox in Nashville, creating the 12/30 Club and recently, the Global Ambassador Hotel in Phoenix, which has been recognized as one of the top 25 hotels in the world by Condé Nast. "I’m enjoying the privilege of partnering with Sam Fox. He's an extraordinary creative mind and perhaps one of the best Hospitality operators in the world," Liautaud remarked.
Liautaud continues to focus on charitable endeavours as well. Over the past decade, the Liautaud Family Foundation, managed alongside his children and wife, has been a steadfast supporter of veterans and conservation charities worldwide. This year alone, the foundation has donated $2 million to wildlife enhancement efforts in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona, focusing on expanding sheep and elk habitats.
The famed Rock.It yacht is now owned by a charter company and is available for rent in European waters, offering a new generation the opportunity to experience its luxury. "Hopefully entrepreneurs," Liautaud commented. "Rock. It was the reward to my family for all the sacrifices we made along the way. It’s a unique way to see the world and yachts bring people together."
As for how Liautaud plans to spend his time now, he quipped, "I don’t sit still, I stay plenty busy.”
